Medical Care Facilities

Private & Public Health Care Facilities In Bucharest

OverviewRomanian citizens benefit from a universal health care system, allowing each person to access free at source medical services. Around 2% of the country’s GDP is spent on health care. Citizens of Bucharest have access to some of the most modern hospitals in the country, such as Coltea, which was refurbished in 2011 using funds from a ninety million Euro EU grant. At nearly 300 years old Coltea hospital is the oldest hospital in Bucharest, and specialises in treating oncological (cancer) and cardiac (heart) patients. There are also many other large hospitals, small clinics and some private hospitals located in Bucharest. Many serious diseases have been eradicated in Bucharest thanks to an organised system of vaccination. Since the 17th century Romanians have found ways to fight smallpox, with early ad hoc methods being replaced by formal administration of a shot at the turn of the 19th century. These days all minors are required to have vaccinations against diphtheria, rubella, polio, tetanus, TB and hepatitis B.
Private Healthcare in Bucharest functions as one would expect with private clinics; direct payment is the norm and one can typically expect “higher than average” service and care quality. This is not a rule, but only an average. In Bucharest, private clinics do allow for private insurance plans, or some even offer monthly payment plans and packages for specialty services. Private Medical Care in Bucharest is considered to be a bit pricey from the point of view of Romanian locals, and while that may be true, many foreigners find the prices quite appealing when compared to the medical care/services in their Country of origin. Interestingly enough, within the past few years these medial services have gained appeal within the Romanian Middle-Class. The private medical services here are generally known to be very good – both customer service and cleanliness are always very highly rated. The choice to choose a Private Clinic over public care facilities is almost always a financially motivated decision, however we believe it’s important that you first establish your medical state and then compare that to your financial needs. For example, a person that requires ongoing moderate medical treatment ay have different needs then a person who only visits the clinic for a fe check-ups annually. You can always switch clinics – there’s no commitment. You can switch between Private and Public as well – just be sure to double-check with your insurance carrier for any issues.

Medical Care quality could boil down to three main factors: Medical Service Quality, Facility Cleanliness, and Time & Efficiency. To put it bluntly with the Public sector medical centers in Bucharest; they function at their best on the bribery system. If you grease the wheels….When you’re at a public medical center, you’re still “expected” to “give a lttle here, and a little there” with nearly every staff member you come into contact with. Unfortunately it still works this way. When a medical facility(s) is  run in this fashion it tends to make the patients and their family feel a bit uncertain about the final outcome of their care/treatment. If you’ve poked around in any one of the many public healthcare centers here then you’re likely familiar with their 1960’s institutional look and feel. The staff never seems to be quite “at your service” and when it comes down to it at the end of the day, the money paid in bribes adds up quickly. While we’ve provided you with a list of the Top Public Medical Centers In Bucharest, we still recommend the Private Clinics while you’re in Bucharest.

Making choices about your healthcare is one of the most important decisions in a person’s life. Many people are told that they have cancer or another life threatening illness and feel that they must make a choice and begin treatment as soon as possible. While this may be true in some instances, taking the time to learn about your disease, to gather more information and making sure you are choosing the right treatment, is just safer for your health.   The Medical Second Opinion service is for patients seeking information that will give them confidence in their medical decisions for any serious, complex or chronic disease. An assembly of the best doctors from the country and abroad (Europe, Japan, Turkey, US)  with select medical specialties, offer consultations in order to determine the righteous and secure path for a patient.

Patients should be seeking  a medical second opinion when:

• the diagnosis is unclear or severe

• the patient has been diagnosed with a rare or life-threatening condition

• the patient has several medical problems

• the recommended treatment is risky, controversial, or experimental (for instance, surgery)

• the patient is not responding  to a treatment as expected

• the patient doubts his medical care provider or the treatment he has received

• the patient wants to have full access to information about his medical situation

Even if doctors are following standard guidelines, there is always the chance of mistaking a certain situation. Getting a medical second opinion has many benefits such as being a discovery platform to help patients identify the finest specialist to handle their healthcare situation. Also, patients seeking a second opinion can avoid a misdiagnosis that can alter their health. As part of the second opinion service, Intermedicas’ doctors can also offer better or alternative treatment options, provide a more clear understanding of your diagnosis, and even prevent unnecessary surgery or invasive, high-risk treatment.   When a patient’s case is presented, specialists review and discuss his history, films and lab results. From that point forward, an individualized treatment plan based on the most recent research findings is developed and the best options for the case are gathered. With this second opinion, patients can see more clearly and take serious and far-reaching decisions on the basis of better information.   Just facing a serious medical challenge is hard enough. The second opinion service helps patients make the right choice and not to go through the unnecessary pain of a surgery while saving them a lot of time. Knowing that they  are getting the care provided by the best physicians and most appropriate treatment can take a lot of the worries away and help them focus on what they need to do to get better.
